Our History
Mt Pleasant Church was originally erected on J.A. Ingles farm, Route 18, Raccoon Township in the summer of 1876, named Mt Pleasant in 1877 because it sat on a “pretty hill”. The building burned in a fire in 1900, but was quickly rebuilt.
After sharing pastors with other local churches for years, the first full-time pastor was Reverend Richard Madsen in 1955. Since then there has been remarkable pastoral stability, with Rev. D. Davis, Rev. D.R. Reinard, Rev. C.R. (Rob) Philips, Dr. R.H. Phillips, and, since 2001, Rev. Dr. Rich Herbster.
During the tenure of Rev. C.R. (Rob) Philips, our 39 acre campus was purchased and new construction began in 1997. An addition was added in 2019 to create more educational spaces. Our Youth Garage was added in 2025. Many members of our congregation did much of the work to build the new building which is now full of activity nearly round the clock.
